A long, narrow 12×8 board packed with eight different piece types. The Queen is a weak ferz that steps only one square diagonally; the Schleich steps one square orthogonally; the Bishop jumps exactly two squares diagonally, leaping over whatever sits between (an elephant-style move). The Man moves like a king but isn't royal, so capturing it doesn't end the game. Pawns have no initial double-step.
Simplifications: this version ends the game the moment a king is captured directly, and omits check-based move restrictions. The historical "obligatory opening ritual" (specific pawn and queen moves before real play begins) is skipped — you're free to play from the very first move.
